Wheat Wreath

 

I've seen several Wheat Wreaths out there, but I had no clue how to make one...
so I thought of my own way. 

First, you need to gather LOTS of "wheat" (I'm just going to call everything I picked wheat, although, I'm pretty sure not all of it is... but I don't know what it's called, so we'll just call it Wheat *wink*). 

 

 

I didn't want all of my wheat to look the same, so I picked several styles that I found in random places while I was between errands. (It was torture for my son to sit in the car while I cut the wheat from the side of the road). It took me several outings to find all I wanted/needed, and I carried scissors with me for a solid week!  I was given some pretty strange looks from the non-secluded roads I used. (Who knew that a FedEx guy could stare so hard!) Oh well, at least I'm used to strange looks occasionally. (giggle)

I didn't want to glue EVERY strand of the wheat individually, so I made little groups of wheat, (about the size of a dime), and wired them together making sure they were tight with a pair of pliers. 

I used this wreath frame I found at the $1.00 store to anchor my wheat bundles to.

The wheat was longer that what I wanted for the wreath frame, 

so I simply snipped it shorter with the wire cutters on my pliers.

Then I simply began to place my wheat around the frame I was using. 

I anchored some strands with wire, and some with glue.

I did this all the way around my wreath frame. 

I wasn't concerned about too many gaps as I would just fill them in later.

Once I had finished placing the wheat bundles around the wreath in one direction,

I began to do the same thing in the other direction (in an attempt for a more "full" look).

The wire that held the bundles together was visible in some places, 

so I simply fixed it by hot-gluing wheat over it.

Once again, I did this around the entire wreath.

There were a few wheat strands that seemed out of place... 

I cut those off with wire cutters.

 And... A finished Wheat Wreath! 

(All for the cost of my $1 wreath frame, hot glue and wire!) 

I gave this as a gift, but felt a little "too cheap" spending $1 on my Pastor's Wife,

so I bought her something too.
